Like your computer Infocetera uses directories to organize your information. Infocetera directories can contain any number of sub-directories and any number of tools. For example, this directory (your home directory) has one sub-directory: Personal, and a set of tools:

  • The Portal tool (this tool) shows an overview of information from a variety of other tools. (See below for more).
  • The Help tips tool displays accessible help information.
  • The Files tool allows you to upload and manage files.
  • The Messages tool is a threaded discussion board and mailing list manager.
  • The Wiki tool provides a set of community editable, cross-linked web pages.
  • The Chat tool is a multi-user chat/whiteboard applet.

Portal tool The Portal tool provides an overview of the information contained in other tools. For example, it shows recent additions to the Files tool, recent Calendar appointments, changes to the Wiki web pages, etc. You can move the Portal elements around with the link, hide/show the elements with the link and remove the elements with the link. When you are viewing other tools if that tool can be added to a Portal you will see the Portal link in the upper right of the page.

Infocetera is very flexible - you can create any number of directories (with the link above) which can hold any number of tools (to change the tools use the edit link above: ). You can control who has access to directories through the edit link as well. For example, the Personal sub-directory that has been created for you is a private directory that other users cannot access.
